A new place for breakfast, lunch or dinner at the cool, budget hotel Tryp by Wyndham. We liked our Ceasar Salad and loved the spicy corn bread! No alcohol licence as yet.

TRY SOME SATTVIK FOOD BY THE SEA AT GOVINDAS 

Chef Yassin has arrived from Mumbai and is developing a new sattvik menu with a contemporary twist. But if you can't wait, try the thalis AED 38 for lunch from Sunday to Wednesday and cool down with a Tru Fruit vegetarian ice cream.

I also like the sound of Tortellini in Business Bay and the new Talise Fuel menu at the Talise Spa in the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Remember Poke? There's a new Poke place in Dubai that's hot on the blogosphere. And there's also a new breakfast place called Sesame in Sunset Mall. All that and more new eats next time!

MEET ME AT MENAGERIE IN MIRDIFF

We LOVED our early morning breakfast at Menagerie in Mirdiff, a brand new, healthy eating cafe in a location for those in the know! Fig, chia and acai pots for AED 28, coco milk cappuccinos at AED 24 and some a very innovative but pretty combinations of our favourite smashed avocado on some hidden toast, but this time with beetroot, vegan cheese, and an optional poached egg. This place was PACKED at 10.30 on a week day morning, so get there early!
We're eating at Mirdiff 35, a new development that's got lot's of coffee shops! Make mine The Menagerie!

ELEGANT EATING AT THE NEWEST ADDRESS IN TOWN

We're having lunch at the newest Address hotel in town! That's the Address Boulevard hotel in Downtown Dubai and we're eating at the most enchanting dining space I've been in! Welcome to The Restaurant. Choose to eat from 2 menus, a larger all day dining menu or a smaller bar bites menu, so far so expected. But then choose to sit and dine in The Walk in Wardrobe, The Study, The Library, The Games Room, The Dining Room, The Collection, The Kitchen or shh even in the Secret Room. Full my experience of The Address Boulevard hotel.  Who needs food when you can eat with your eyes here?

FROM MANILA TO MANKHOOL, WE'RE AT MAX'S

Max's Philipino restaurant is an institution in Manila! With branches all over world, 10 of them in the UAE and now there's a NEW MENU at Max's in Mankhool. Wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised! World class Pinoy is their mantra and the cuisine is an amalgam of Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese and American food. I recommend the spicy, deep fried tofu and prawn and vegetable chop suey! But for the best value try the new sizzling prawns, 8 giant prawns on skewers with 4 bowls of rice for AED 52! I'd ask them to go easy on the banana ketchup though! An interesting bakery too with desserts that use purple yam! I asked for a slice, but the whole cake was just AED ??

LOVED LIMA DUBAI

There's a new Peruvian in town, yes another one, this time it's LIMA from London, now based in City Walk and it's licensed as it's attached to La Ville hotel, but kind of remotely! I LOVED my lunch here last Saturday and I'd go again. It's modern, with cool design features, not as plush as Coya, but still very smart. Try the ceviches, we had sea bass, that was Catch of the Day, try the causas, we know that's the Peruvian potatotes, and purple's my favourite kind. I'm not big on chicken but I really liked my dish here, ask for Chicken breast Pachamanca AED 110, served on a sizzling plate! The chocolate avocado mousse is a bit an acquired taste but the Peruvian Suspiro is really good, esp at AED 50! Or try 3 scoops of Andean or Amazonian sorbets for AED 35. I want to go again, soon. Nb We didn't get time to talk about Lima on this show as planned but it's first up next time, fellow foodies!

FAB NEW BREAKFAST AT FARZI

Farzi Cafe in City Walk is now serving Portobello Poha! A traditional, lightly spiced flaked rice dish very commonly had at breakfast time! Just one of the items from it's new breakfast menu, just introduced 2 weeks ago. Great vibe, cool, relaxed and contemporary mix of Indian fusion, but this dish was exactly as you'd find in any Indian home! Farzi really is fab! Try Farzi's French Toast, but you must like Nutella!

TRUMP GOLF COURSE NOW OPEN BUT WHATS THE FOOD LIKE

We tried the food at one of the 6 dining spots at the new Trump International golf course in Damac Hills near the Arabian Ranches last week. We ate at the Members Bar, open to all after 6pm and quite liked the Mediterranean/Italian food on offer, stylish crockery and general set up . Try the parmigiana or the very good tortellini "plin" style with burrata cheese and artichokes.  AED 95 but I think we got a smaller portion as it was a tasting menu. The club has a very impressive entrance, more like a luxury boutique hotel, when you eventually find the place. Definitely worth having a coffee and maybe some breakfast one morning to take in the views and to check out the spaces. I'd like the sound of the infinity pool overlooking the golf course, where you can also order snacks. Open to the public from Sunday 19th February, cappucinos only AED 18.

KOSHARI IS COOL BUT WHERE DID THE WORD COME FROM

I had no idea how popular Koshari was here in Dubai! Koshari Point is serving Koshari in a new way with it's addition of butter chicken! So a real fusion of flavours going on here. Koshari comes from the word Kicheree which is a blend of rice and lentils cooked together. The British brought it with them to Egypt from India, the Italians added pasta and Koshari was born! Koshari Point in al Barsha is one of those hidden gems serving contemporary Egyptian street food. They've very recently added the butter chicken and labneh to their Koshari. And it's cheap as chips only better for you. Here's Mustafa, one of the owner's of Koshari Point telling us a bit more about how it came about and butter chicken koshari.

TASTY TUSCAN BY THE TURTLE LAGOON WHATS IT LIKE

Italian food in a modern, but comfortable setting by the turtle lagoon. Those window tables will be hugely popular. A nice buzz on a Thursday lunchtime despite the weather, try the artichoke salad and fried calamari to start with. Then maybe a pasta, we liked the lamb shank sauce on a spinach pasta. Excellent creme brulee, full of vanilla pods then just a short walk away from the beach side at the Burj al Arab for more pictures, set in the very new Al Naseem hotel between the Mina A Salam and the Burj Al Arab Il Borro Tuscan Bistro from Tuscany. We spoke about this one on last week's Food News and Reviews February 7th 2017 AED 65 for a calamari and prawn starter, AED 115 for my pumpkin tortellini with truffles. But the Margherita pizza is only AED 50!

STYLISH SIKKA NOW AT CITY WALK

This is definitely one for bringing visitors to as it's draws on the heritage of what the UAE is all about. Opened in the very modern City Walk area of Dubai, the very stylish Sikka Cafe serves food from a mix of Emirati, Indian and Iranian cuisines, and a few bits of fusion too! I loved the vibe here, the design of the interiors, the floor tiles, it has a real identity and there's always something to look at. Brownie points for serving real sugar cubes too! Choose between Karak Chai or a decaff cappucino, but do try the labneh cheesecake. I also recommend the halloumi sandwiches too. I'll be back to try the breakfast here. But perhaps head to Ostadi for more authentic biriyani...

Open everyday for breakfast and lunch at the moment, try some eggs, salad or acai bowls! Check out the library and the very funky wall dividers made from natural coral!

CHIVAL IN CITY WALK TRIED AND TESTED

We came across this while wandering about in City Walk, we tried it for dinner last week and LOVED it! Chival is a stylish, urban hang out with fresh, modern cuisine. My favourite was this beetroot and puy lentil salad, made for sharing and perfect for lunch, but I also liked the agnolotti too. More foodie news from this venue in the coming weeks. We're at Chival at La Ville hotel, opposite Farzi Cafe.  The first of a few licensed places in this area of town? You tell me...

 

GASTRO MEALS AT UNDER 500 CALORIES

We're at Gauchos again! This time they're showcasing some detox time menus, here's the Feel Good Menu at around 500 calories for the 3 course meal at AED 150. What would you choose?

PERRIER MOJITO

Homemade camomile honey syrup, fresh lime juice, muddled strawberry and mint

STARTERS:  SAFFRON CHICKEN BROTH or FIRE ROASTED PEPPERS AND AVOCADO

MAINS:  OVEN BAKED SEA BREAM or FLASH GRILLED RUMP

DESSERTS: GRILLED PINEAPPLE or COCONUT CHIA PUDDING

This is making me feel good, but where are the veggie main options for Zahra (and me!)? 

WHAT TO EAT AT THE OUTLET MALL

Well, the outlet mall near Dubai Parks and Resorts is quite small relative to malls as we know them in Dubai with a few eateries open so far. We sampled the fries at a new French burger chain called Big Fernand! 25 branches in France and the now 1 in the Outlet Mall, soon to open in City Walk and Festival City. The fries at least were delicious! Freshly made from real potatoes every morning, hot, not crispy, but finished with a herb dusting or served with a spicy dip. AED 22, the veggie burger is made with mushrooms, and there also 2 types of chicken burgers as well as beef burgers, it was a popular choice last Friday lunchtime! 

Tomyumtini at WIse Kwai Dusit D2 hotel DoinDubai

NEW THAI IN BARSHA HEIGHTS

Wise Kwai, not Wise Guy is the name of this new Thai restaurant in the modern Dusit D2 Kenz hotel in Barsha Heights. I recommend this Tomyumtini for now, the best mocktail I've tried in a while. The theme of this restaurant is based on Thai cinema, so move over Bollywood. The menu for food hasn't been quite finalised as yet. More foodie news from this hotel from Ostro, lots of noise on the blogosphere about this one, and while we haven't eaten there yet, it looks as pretty as a picture and there's a focus on fresh, healthy and organic where possible.
