What to eat at Al Fannah Seafood

At Al Fannah Seafood, eat what they do best, so that’s prawns fry, fish grilled (or fried) and fish gravy. Salad and rice will come automatically. It’s very like Bu Qtair, but I think it’s a bit better. They also have dosas and other South Indian dishes on the menu, we haven’t tried these but do let us know if you try them. Dosas are served from as early as 8am! So go for South Indian breakfast by the sea!

Where is Al Fannah Seafood

It’s in an area called Al Suq in Jumeirah fishing village, Um Suqeuim 2.  Turn off the Jumeirah Beach road at the petrol pump with a McDonalds connected to it, just near the Burj Al Arab, then turn left at the end of this road. You can park inside if there is a space, else park in the car park across the road.

The prices at Al Fannah Seafood

Very reasonable. Fish and prawns go by seasonal prices and of course by weight. But a meal of Sheri fish grill, prawns fry, with salad, fish gravy, rice and a bottle of water, costs around AED 100 for 2 people. So Al Fannah seafood is very affordable.

Views and ambience of Al Fannah Seafood

This is a seaside cafe, so the ambience is very much that, there are 2 areas with seating outside, a smaller area infront of the cafe and another larger area at the side of the cafe. Try and sit in front, you have a better view of the sea from here. You can of course sit inside if it’s too hot. Great for taking visitors to especially if you’re paying for everyone!

INTERSECT BY LEXUS DUBAI

What’s the concept of Intersect by Lexus Dubai

I really wasn’t sure what the concept of Intersect by Lexus Dubai was, but the first time I stopped to stare, I was invited in to know more. No thanks, not today I said and walked on, not keen on being told about all the virtues of a Lexus, or so I thought. Happened to be invited for lunch a couple of days later, so found out what the point of it all was!

Designed by top Japanese interior designer Masamichi Katayama, the space, both up and down is modern, arty, light and very contemporary but thankfully you don’t feel like you’re in a car in the cafe! Everything in the cafe that you experience (apart from the food I guess) is somehow connected to the Lexus car brand. For example the leather on the dining chairs is the same as the leather on a Lexus car seat, the table top is made of the same wood as the dashboard of the car and so on. They are using the same high quality materials in the cafe as they do in the car.

So is it just a cafe then

No it’s a restaurant and lounge that can also be a space for  you to just stop by! In terms of functions the space is obviously a restaurant upstairs, they are serving breakfast, lunch and dinner opening at 8am. But as well as diners there were people beavering away on their laptops with a coffee, as it’s supposed to be a work space as well. I am not sure how long you can linger here with one coffee though! There are PLENTY of books that fill the cylindrical shelves and there are plans to start a book club too.

Why do they have a Lexus car on the lower ground floor in full view

To remind you I think that it’s all about the Lexus at the end of the day, but it’s also cool to have a car in the basement! So it’s all about experiencing the Lexus via high quality, modern design, be it in the furniture or in the retail items for sale on their Crafted by Lexus shelves. No steering wheel covers or driving gloves, it’s more about beautiful leather briefcases and hand thrown mugs.

Are they using a cafe as a front to sell you a Lexus

I don’t think so, at least no one offered me a test drive of the car, cost AED 367, 000 and available in 3 colours. But I am definitely much more aware of the brand now and can see why it’s associated with luxury and very high quality materials.

Whats the food like at the cafe

All our party agreed that the lamb with the sweet potato and yoghurt was good, slice it up thinly and share. Other people I know also liked the kale and avocado salad but we have had plenty of this at home recently so didn’t order. I think I was expecting a bit more Japanese fusion type food here, maybe with some of the things they currently have on the Intersect by Lexus in Tokyo. Would love to have tried their special raw sugar smoothies with yuzu apple or dragonfruit!

It’s Downstairs at Intersect by Lexus Dubai that’s really fun

We were taken on a little (10 minutes) tour of the downstairs by Halil Asar, the head of operations. We learnt all about the prototype car, and the corridor of toy cars were very artistically displayed on the way to the washrooms where the Japanese design features are very plainly evident!  There are 2 obvious EMPTY  spaces on the car corridor walls, one space is reserved by Mr Omar Al Futtaim’s choice of car and the other for the head of Lexus Mr Fukuichi

Put this one on your list to take visitors to for a coffee, a snack and the tour, the other one is in Japan, and a new one is opening later this year in New York. Oh and I shall add this to my category of 3 things to do in DIFC!

AGENCY CHEESE AND WINE DEAL

I really liked the Agency Cheese and Wine deal at the Madinat, it’s being billed as a Post Brunch deal. Here’s what you get. 

Agency is offering as much cheese as you can eat.  On offer is a really good variety of quality cheese. With a splash of honey and some fig chutney on the side, together with lot’s of nice bread and artisan crackers.

So here’s the deal, as well as the cheese platter you also get a  bottle of red or white wine person for AED 195 PER PERSON!

There isn’t a choice of wine within the broad category of red or white but our red wine from South Africa was very good and easy to drink.

The cheeses were well thought out and complemented each other. You can re order any of the cheeses if you’d like more, but portions are generous.

The Agency cheese and wine deal starts at 4pm and finishes at 8pm and it’s only on every Friday.

I suggest you eat on a high table on the terrace outside. Go towards the right side of the terrace and you’ll get gorgeous views of the Burj Al Arab and a peaceful bit of the Mina A Salam Madinat waterways with abras floating up and down. As well as the odd bird or too! A very relaxing way of eating on a Friday afternoon if you don’t want a big brunch or if you want to continue from where you left off!

It’s also a real contrast to the mainly touristy sections of the Madinat Jumeirah.

Post Brunch Deal NOTE

Apparently sharing is frowned upon so the deal of AED195 for the bottle of wine and all the cheese is per person, but maybe you could order for one and take advantage of the other snack items also offered at reduced prices till 5pm, I  recommend their aubergine pate.

This deal is great for vegetarians or if you’re opting for a meat free meal. If you don’t eat dinner afterwards and resist snacking (I managed!) then you’re eating early so you’ll have plenty of time to digest your meal.

They do offer some pudding shots but there is an extra charge for these, AED 55 for 3 is great value but after all that good cheese and wine I think I’d prefer my coco yogo mango passion fruit dessert over these!

If you’re still contemplating going away for half term then try Hotels.Com for more reasonably priced accommodation, good sales on at the moment too!
