Dubai residents are familiar with the word Iftar and all it entails from a simple breaking of the Ramadan fast with some dates and juice to elaborate and sumptuous buffets with huge varieties of food from a number of regions. But the Iftar we had on the first day of Ramadan at Flavours on Two at the Towers Rotana was just right, yes there were plump dates and fruit juices to begin with and a simple but very tasty selection of authentic local foods, from fresh Middle Eastern mezzes to just grilled chicken shwarmas, some lamb and seafood biriyanis and vegetables as well as a delicious array of desserts. I loved the little crème brulee pots and the chocolate cake had just the right fudge like moist texture and flavour. I even tried a little of the Um Ali bread pudding and found it was delicately flavoured with rosewater.
Flavours on Two Iftar
Our vegetarian guests told me the lentil soup was fresh, wholesome and hot while the salads looked and tasted delicious. Reassuringly the chefs were on hand to answer any questions and were very much part of the evening. Even if you’re not fasting, go to this Iftar with family or friends and experience a relaxed, easy, early evening meal that is satisfying and delicious.
Do share the post out on Facebook. Thanks again and have a peaceful Ramadan.
And how good is your knowledge of Ramadan? Tell me a typical food that you associate with Iftar in the comments box below. I’m sure our readers out of the UAE would love to know.
Iftar will be served everyday of Ramadan at Flavours on Two just after 7pm till around 8.30pm when the buffet is cleared for the main evening meal that starts later on.
Prices for Iftar are Dhs 145 with 2 people eating for free if you book a table of 10 people or more. Children below the age of 6 eat free and those aged 7 to 12 are charged Dhs 72.
The Iftar meal does get busy so do book before hand. I loved the fresh mezzes, chicken shwarma, tasty felafals and all the salads ! The desserts were difficult to choose between but my recommendation would be the crème brulee pots and the chocolate cake!
