I could eat everything on this menu! LOVED the coconut lime pudding! AED 38 would feed 2 easily.  It's quiet but very cool eating at Sesame. Cashew or Cows milk for you?

FILL UP ON SOME TALISE FUEL IN JUMEIRAH 

Same interiors, same delicious views, but brand new menu from Chef Gaby. Glow and Detox for AED 80 at the Talise Cafe with the Talise Fuel menu. The Rice Paper rolls are a must and raw slaw really good.

But make sure you use the right entrance to get to Talise Fuel at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel

LOOKING AHEAD TO DIWALI ARMANI STYLE 

Loving the sound of this special menu at the Armani Amal AED 300 for veg or AED 350 for non veg between 18th to 20th of October. This would be my top pick for a classy Diwali in Dubai meal. 

BUT in the meantime try the 10 10 promotion at the Armani from the 1st till 10th of October. LAST CHANCE TODAY 4 course menus as 4 venues at the Armani AED 350. I recommend the Armani Hashi that we tried for Date Night last Friday! Million dollar setting with fab food and drink, all on offer.

FROM SAN FRANCISCO BAY TO BUSINESS BAY ITS POKE DAY

Dubai has a new poke place! Fresh fish, rice vegetables and dressings all in a bowl.

Healthy, clean and  fresh. Doing a roaring delivery trade, it's ok to sit at but access isn't the that easy. Look for Churchill Towers and park on rough ground.

Poke is really cool and very popular in London now too..

Poke is so popular in London now! New places springing up all the time! We loved lunch at Ahi Poke in London's trendy Fitzrovia area yesterday! I've never seen it so busy, that speaks volumes for how good this place is! Very good value too, they had albacore tuna as well which is new to me as well as all the usual accompaniments of a perfect poke bowl..loved the hot ginger tea and energy ball to finish... they have seating but be prepared to queue. OMNIA GOES INDIAN

A new mall meal destination, well it's been there a while but not with this cuisine. Try the new Omnia Bharat, you'll be surprised at how reasonable the prices are, not quite as low as Din Tai Fung, but I'd go back if I was in Mall of the Emirates.

A new place for breakfast, lunch or dinner at the cool, budget hotel Tryp by Wyndham. We liked our Ceasar Salad and loved the spicy corn bread! No alcohol licence as yet.

Chef Yassin has arrived from Mumbai and is developing a new sattvik menu with a contemporary twist. But if you can't wait, try the thalis AED 38 for lunch from Sunday to Wednesday and cool down with a Tru Fruit vegetarian ice cream.

Try a Nourish bowl for AED 46 and a chocolate brownie made with sweet potato and avocado AED 22. All the speciality coffees are good too.

THE ART OF GIVING AT GRUB SHACK

Remember Grubshack, that groovey Goan joint in Health Care city that serves Goan food but also Indo Chinese food? We spoke about it earlier on this year. Well they've got a worthy initiative happening this Ramadan.

For every table eating a meal at Iftar time, they'll give away an Iftar meal box to a needy person in the name of the diner!

I love this idea!  Some of our favourites are those Goan Rechado prawns and the crispy bhindi Nurani!  Don't forget to try the kulfi on a stick from the cart. It's not licensed, but as it's health care city, it is open all day for discreet dining in and takeout.

The Giveaway deal is only during Iftar time though.

 

DIVE INTO A DEHLVI IFTAR OVER AT THE OBEROI IN BUSINESS BAY

Which corner of the world do we think Delhlvi cusine comes from ?

From Delhi of course, but more specifically from Old Delhi, so very near the area of the Jama Masjid which is I think the largest mosque in India constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1656. Jama Masjid means a mosque that reflects the world.

In and around the streets and alleys are bustling markets selling everything but there's a real focus on a particular type of street food here. The Ananta restaurant at the Oberoi in Business Bay has taken the best of what Delhvi cuisine has to offer and very appropriately put it all together in an iftar!

We know about Chef Dirham Haque as he was the master chef behind the Hyderabadi food festival too.

See what your favourite is from the Delhvi iftar menu, vegetarian or non vegetarian. The food has evolved from influences of the Mughals, the Punjabis and the Marwaris from Rajasthan. 

 

BEAUTIFUL SETTING IN BAB AL SHAMS FOR AN ARABIC IFTAR

A traditional Arabic iftar at it's best and great if you happen to have some visitors over.

Head into the desert to the Al Hadheerah restaurant at Bab al Shams! It's hot and there's a lot happening outdoors BUT there is a very large, comfortable air conditioned tent where you can sit and eat.

We went mid week and it was packed so do book. I LOVED the ouzi here, the lamb was being cooked underground in a giant tandoor type oven, then hauled up with a pulley system as it was so heavy! Tasted more like a well spiced lamb biriyani to me than ouzi.

There's a great atmosphere here with a real Middle Eastern feel to the recreated street food market souk. The um ali, again a very traditional Arabic dessert was fabulous and hugely popular with people going back for more!

It's a great way of experiencing Al Hadheerah cost wise too as it's only AED 250 during the week, a little more at the week end.

The silence of the desert when you get back to the car park, that's priceless! Check it out for yourself, and subscribe to the DoinDubai You Tube channel to get quick bites of honest foodie videos. 

AUTHENTIC ARMENIAN CUISINE AT THE SOFITEL

Yes it's still Middle Eastern food but this time we're eating Armenian style at the Sofitel Downtown.

We're at Al Mayass where they believe there is no love more sincere than the love of food! Try some Itch - that's a tangy bulgar wheat salad with a slightly spicy tomato based sauce as the main dressing. Plenty of vegetarian cold mezzes but the meat while known to us as kebabs, is served with a dark, cherry topping.

I tried the lamb and that too was excellent. Go to Al Mayass for some old world style and comfort, slow down and catch up properly. Iftars cost AED 185 but this is a new restaurant so do go even if not for an Iftar, it's open at lunch as well. Some interesting arty pieces here too. Do we know precisely where Armenia is?

INTERESTING IFTARS in Dubai this Ramadan 2017

 

Interesting Iftars in Dubai for you this Ramadan 2017  

Try one of the more interesting Iftars this year, escape the usual lavish options, there are plenty to choose from. This week on The Ticket we share interesting Iftars  that are  'New' and delicious.  Try  a cool new setting in Dubai Creek Harbour and why not try a Ramadan menu rather than an Iftar.  Did you know you can customise your own Iftar  this Ramadan?

TRY A RAMADAN MENU INSTEAD OF AN IFTAR MENU THIS YEAR

It doesn't have to be an Ifar menu, why not a Ramadan menu that's available all evening? That's what Mint Leaf in DIFC are offering this year. We think it works very well.

AED 195 for a 7 course meal, you can opt for  a vegetarian or non vegetarian menu. Some tiny courses, others way larger. We liked this and would go again. Expect beetroot tikkis to begin with, and seafood hidden in a quinoa kichadi to follow. But save yourself for the heavier sea bass in a spicy creamy South Indian gravy.

You'll be pinching tastes from the vegetarians too! Beverages also available all evening for AED 25. So all in all a good deal this season. I liked how they incorporated Middle Eastern flavours into the Indian dishes, so dates and sumac appear on some courses. They also have an iftar menu at AED 145. Note the Ramadan menu is available all day as is their regular a la carte menu in case you're not fasting. 

 

A BRAND NEW SETTING BY THE WATER AND SOME CULTURE TOO

Dubai Creek Harbour? Near Deira? No thanks, not for me. But no it's nowhere near Deira, it's left on the E44 towards Ras Al Khor off the MBZ road just after International City. Not far at all according to a map, but there was heavy traffic on a Thursday afternoon.

We're at Rise Dubai Creek Harbour, the new Emaar Development that's showcasing the new tallest building in Dubai. It's called The Tower and should be ready by 2020 in time for the expo.

There is a very large, functional space that's been set up right in front of the water and it's serving a traditional iftar every evening this Ramadan. But we liked the various pop ups that are also on show on the way to the food. So unusual quirky clothing and jewellery was on dispay and some modern art too.

There is a pirate ship that forms a bit of a play area outside but it's a bit hot for the moment. I loved the large swimming pool area at the back, but it's not a lido, it's a water feature, for now. Prices are AED 140 for Iftar, kids aged 6 to 12 eat for AED 60 and kids under 6 eat for free.

CUSTOMISE YOUR OWN IFTAR IN DIFC FRENCH STYLE AT LE CIRQUE

Have what suits YOU at this customizable iftar by Le Cirque at DIFC. 2 vegetarians, a pescatarian and an omnivore challenged their chefs to come up with some inspiring inftar meals.
We all really liked what we got!

But all the iftars start with dates and a gorgeous soup as well as a Ramadan drink. This was hibiscus based, not too sweet. Salads, agnolotti, steak, salmon and desserts that were too delicious means I will highly likely go again. There's minimal wastage this way as well. 3 courses cost AED 245 that includes a Ramadan drink, dates and that gorgeous soup.

The sourdough bread was SO good we had to ask for more!

KATSUYA DID IT LIVE UP TO OUR EXPECTATIONS ?

We mentioned Katsuya's new branch on the show before last and we tried it at Iftar time on Wednesday night! And we really liked it.

Must trys are the crispy brussel sprouts at AED 49 and the chilean seabass at AED 155 You must try the grilled brocoolini at AED 35. Did you know if you looked  into Katsuya from above, it would look like a bento box?

Great little sections of restaurant which can be used as required, so no empty cavernous space that would put diners off! But be aware as it's Ramadan while Katsuya is open for lunch and dinner, the windows are misted out, not from the humidity but to comply with Dubai regulations. When the weather is cooler, their larger terrace will be the ONLY place to be and be seen! Delicious food with delicious views to match.

Not high end, but not cheap and cheerful either, Katsuya, as hoped, has got it just right! We'll be back.
