DUBAI DELICATESSEN : MARKET AND PLATTERS

Market and Platters is an upmarket Dubai Delicatessen based in the Marina.  All the ingredients for sale here are fresh, of high quality and extremely authentic. The olive pate is shiny and not too thick, made from olive oil from Liguria that tastes just right with the crispy baked garlic bread that has just the correct amount of garlic. The French melons tasted of Provence and sunshine. We visited thinking we could have lunch here but there are no eat in facilities at the moment so we took away a very superior picnic lunch comprising of plump prawn ceasar salad, some tuna tartare, a gourmet focaccia sandwich and some crisp Asian leaf salad. We weren’t disappointed, everything tasted just as it should.

Market and Platters has been open for 2 weeks now and is the natural sequel to Fresh Express, a Gourmet catering supplier to many of Dubai’s 5* hotels. It’s run by two Greek brothers who are passionate about good food. As well as ready made deli type take away platters there is also a comprehensive fishmonger and an impressive cheese counter in the shop. Prices are reasonable and I was really surprised that the sandwiches at Dhs 26.00 cost no more than the very staid offerings of some of Dubai’s larger chains. Our small box of Asian salad leaves was under Dhs 5.00.

If you’re in the area and the weather’s cooler pick up all your ingredients here for a perfect picnic on the beach and if it’s too warm, drive straight home and enjoy your feast. Find out what you Need to Know about how to get to Market and Platters below and of course let the staff know you came on a recommendation from Monica at DoinDubai. Lastly don’t forget to like and share this post on Facebook, thanks Monica and Thanks also to Debra who told me about this. If you’d like me to review something in Dubai, send me in a comment and I’ll try and get there.

Market and Platters is based on the road behind the La Reve apartment building in the Marina and is open  every day. Parking is possible but not that easy.

Telephone: 04 450 4466

Currently there are a variety of ingredients available to try before you buy ranging from fresh Parmesan cheese, to Italian olive paste and a variety of succulent fruits and artisan breads. Let them know you heard about the shop from Monica at DoinDubai. Thanks Monica.

I was pleasantly surprised with the size and interest of the audience at the Emirates Lit Fest talk for my book: Saudi Arabia - Vision or Mirage. I have no doubt this engagement is down to your excellent radio mention ahead of the event. Thank you Monica

  1. Thanks for letting us know about this fab sounding place, we’ll get there shortly and do our own review,

    Kindest regards Monica.

  2. Great post – thanks for letting us foodie-fanatics know about this gem of a place! 🙂
I would highly recommend reviewing Cafe Baroque House of Soups and Deli located in JBR, Murjan 5, Plaza Level.

Cafe Baroque is a delicious, wholesome new deli in JBR whipping up the cleanest most delicious soups in town (4 soups of the day) and innovative salads…their juices are also a highlight here and although the owner from Mauritius and wife from Madagascar love and breath ‘simplicity’ , their innovative dishes and great attractive price tags with a warm cosy Baroque setting keeps my friends and I going back for more heart-warming dishes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/cafebaroque?ref=ts

  3. Hi readers,

just a small correction to the above post, the brothers who run Market and Platters are Greek, not Maltese as I had previously thought, apologies. Thanks, Monica.
