DUBAI GARDENING PROJECT PLANT SHOPPING

Dubai Gardening

“Winter” means we can finally get serious about Dubai Gardening. We can start thinking about improving our gardens, planting, pots, patios and drinks parties outdoors. Plants are very reasonably priced in places like Warsan behind Dragon Mart but how exactly do you get there and what’s a good buy for our Dubai gardens?

Find out what I bought last Saturday morning as part of my ‘Dubai Gardening Project’

Our mild weather means we can walk outside easily and explore areas we wouldn’t go near in the summer.

Directions to Warsan

  • Very easy really, from the Arabian Ranches
  • Get onto the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed road heading towards the Al Ain/Dubai side.
  • Continue going straight for quite a way, you pass Repton school (Hogwarts type building with all the turrets) on your left,
  • then look for the sign post to Hatta, take this right exit.
  • Continue on the Hatta road and pass Dragon Mart on your right,
  • continue straight until you see a sign for Dubai Textile city, take the first right immediately after this sign
  • and follow signs to Warsan 1 and then left at the roundabout towards Warsan 2.
  • You will see a variety of gardening shops on the left and straight ahead of you. Stop wherever you like and buy from a couple of places. All the shops deliver.

What to buy?

Dubai Gardening is not the same as gardening back home. You have to choose carefully depending on what you want to achieve in your garden.

My advice is to stick to a simple colour scheme and focus mainly on plants that don’t need too much maintenance.

Here’s my plant gallery with the names of plants and how

much they cost. Take this as a guide if you go plant shopping.

I didn’t bargain too hard.

Delivery of plants and costs involved

Making Dubai Gardening less of a challenge. I found  all the  shops deliver and usually as quickly as the next day.

I paid Dhs 80 or so for a medium truckload of plants.

  1. Hi there,

sorry for delayed reply, but just advertise you are having a sale on your local supermarket notice board, or on line at Dubizzle or any on line second hand site such as Buy It Sell It Swap it ! Good Luck !

  2. WHERE CAN I SELL ALL MY PLANTS I AM LEAVING DUBAI? THE GARDENERS COME AND OFFER RIDICULOUS PRICES

  3. Hi there Mivea,

well firstly thanks so much for the detailed and helpful comment. That’s great to know you’re so keen on gardening! I found my Rosemary at California Nurseries in Warsan, I bought 2 pots and have planted them just outside my kitchen, so I hope they do well. Are you sure you weren’t thinking of Lavender as that’s what I associate with Provence?

It’s really helpful that you have left a comment, very useful and great to know you like the new look of the website. I don’t know of any nursery that is specializing in herbs and spices but perhaps some of our readers will let us know?

Thanks again for your continued support and do consider sharing the post on facebook if you get a chance !

    Warmest regards,

    Monica

  4. Thanks Monica for sharing your experience in gardening!
We recently did a “face lifting” with our pool and garden and went to the Plant Nursery in Warsan as well.
They all offer a wide range of plants….more of less with a good background as “gardeners”. So I am happy to know (after 8 years living in Dubai) what plants I really can have outside or inside and which one I can plant in bright sunlight and which one are better in the shade…(because some of the guys only want to make business…)
Also to mention that I really have a good gardener who does our yard twice a week and he is always happy to see that there a clients who invest time and of course some money to create a beautiful garden…
What I would love to see more in Nurseries is some more herbs and spices…You really have to check every single nursery which herbs they offer…
At the moment I have some Thai Basil, Mediterranean Basil, Thyme, Lemon Mint and Coriander (for my husband only, I can’t eat it…. 😉 ).
I couldn’t find Rosemary which I love as it reminds me of the “Provence”, and I still would love to have some Lavender in one corner….I already tried once to grow some from seeds which I brought from my country but I wasn’t very successful…
Would love to hear from others what kind of herb garden they create every winter…
