S T A Y at home and save money perhaps ?
Last Thursday evening we had dinner with friends at STAY restaurant. (One and Only Palm Jumeirah)
If you’re not hungry there is ample time to build up an appetite if you’re coming to this restaurant from anywhere other than the Palm itself. It’s located on the Palm’s West Crescent and getting here took longer than we thought it would. This hotel is the third hotel over a long stretch of the crescent, the Keminski (due to open on July 1st) is first, followed by another elegant looking low rise hotel, we must have arrived, I thought, and even got out of the car and took the car ticket from the valet, it was in fact the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray ! Back in the car, we finally arrived for our meal at STAY. Better to come by boat from the One and Only Royal Mirage ?
The name is a play on pneumonics, S T A Y stands for (we were informed at length)
Simple Table Alleno Yannick (Yannick Alleno being the 3 star Michelin chef linked to the restaurant)
The tables are not simple, they have all the posh settings / correct numbers of glasses, etc you’d expect from this level of restaurant, the menus were succinct I agree, but I did gently suggest that perhaps S T should stand for sophisticated table based on the numerous explanations offered to us during the meal.
Our starters were excellent, spinach and ricotta cannelloni with a parmesan flavoured cappuccino foam around it, a smoked eel and potato salad dish with beetroot mousse and a lobster salad. Our friends seemed happy with their Wagyu beef and prawn ravioli main courses but our fish portions were too itsy for this kind of establishment.
We had a walk after dinner to the pastry library, a sort of live pudding station and upright pudding trolley all in one. The desserts were ok, but there were plenty of little tidbits at the beginning of the meal (especially enjoyed my buttered radish) and end (dates, chocolate, cookies etc) that meant we didn’t leave hungry.
Not sure it was worth the money, perhaps STAY put next time.
