What is Weslodge Dubai all about
Weslodge Dubai is another new restaurant that opened mid April 2016, this time it’s an import from Toronto in Canada. I really liked the feel of it and LOVED the glasses of prosecco we had at the bar before dinner.
Do I think you should visit? YES but here’s what I suggest you eat.
Food and Drink at Weslodge Dubai
It’s contemporary classic food mainly, that’s split into smaller plates, raw food, salads and then the usual proteins. They have lobster poutines that are very Canadian, a bit like a lobster roll but we didn’t try the night we visited. There’s definitely some Asian going on with the hamachi fish from Japan, served with wasabi, radish and soy, excellent at AED 55 but also some classics like shaved brussels sprout salad with kale, spicy pecans and ricotta. All our starters were very good and I would order again.
Two of their signature dishes were the mushroom pie, made with 10 different types of mushrooms and the Southern Fried chicken. I preferred the jumbo prawn with spicy shellfish butter though.
The sides could have been a meal in themselves for me. Loved the broccolini served in it’s own casserole dish and thrice cooked chips with house ketchup were difficult to resist and very well priced at AED 25. The chips at Catch at the Fairmont just next door were priced at AED 60, yes they were truffle fries but still…. The roasted cauliflower was also a great hit on our table. There is a lot of steak on the menu, but there’s plenty more besides that too.
Ambience of Weslodge Dubai
A kind of modern gothic, we all really liked the grey/blue walls with gilt gold picture frames and the oversized real candelabras on the bar made a perfect setting for our pre dinner drinks. The bar area itself is large and made up a of black and white marble top, that’s not in the least bit “rough and ready” and we all really liked that.
Where is Weslodge Dubai
Weslodge Dubai is located on the 68th floor of the JW Marriott Marquis hotel in Dubai Business Bay. It’s a busy hotel when you get to the lobby, but just ignore all the people and do take the correct lift to the 68th floor in tower B, not tower A, that’s where Prime 68 is located.
Wesldoge Dubai is only open for dinner at the moment, and it’s closed on Sundays for now.
Best bits of Weslodge Dubai
Definitely all our starters and side dishes. The jumbo prawn was excellent from the mains though. The pricing of the sides especially the chips is sensible, and they are offering something a little bit different in how they cook their sides too. I liked that they had the very modern hamachi and ahi tuna ceviche on offer as well as the heavier dishes, so there’s something for everyone. Without doubt though we all thought the desserts were excellent, both in taste, presentation and price. So do leave room for these.
The other stars at this restaurant are it’s staff, well informed, friendly and competent, I hope they stay.
Room for Improvement at Weslodge Dubai
We didn’t like the dark brown gravy that was poured all over the mushroom pie at all. The pastry underneath the top was a little underdone. But I really liked the taste of the mushroom pie when it was served as a canape at the launch party so they should work a little on that dish. We also thought the signature fried chicken was a bit too sweet.
It’s definitely worth a visit and as the evenings in Dubai get hotter, cool down at at the bar at Weslodge Dubai. We’ll ask them for a competition meal to let a lucky subscriber try it for free, but go anyway, it’s fun.
Thank you
Monica.
Hi Sharneen,
great to hear you also liked Weslodge! I’ve been recommending it to everyone and I’d love to go again, especially for a glass of that prosecco at the bar!
Warmest regards Monica
I loved the Weslodge and would highly recommend it. The bar is a great start to the evening with the elegant touch of the Candelabras and amazing champagne glasses. The staff where outstanding and
knowledgeable, this is what is lacking in most restaurants in Dubai.
Thank you for a great evening, look forward to coming back soon!
Hello Radha,
thanks for taking the time to comment, I agree completely with your analysis! Spot on! But I’m keen on going again…
warmest regards Monica
My visit to Weslodge is best described by the people and presentation- both of the restaurant and the food. While new restaurants are bound to impress , the knowledge of the staff to answer questions about how a dish is prepared and recommend with conviction is commendable. While the starters and desserts were not only elegantly displayed, include the hamachi and broccolini as they were absolutely scrumptious! Amongst the mains, it was the prawns that shined and not the signature dishes. Nevertheless, the entire experience is worth a trip ( and another one) there! All the best to Weslodge !
