Miss Wang DoinDubai Karaoke

WHO IS MISS WANG AND WHERE DOES SHE LIVE

Miss Wang is an independent, stylish woman who knows her own mind. Find her at the Majestic hotel in Bur Dubai. She's responsible for putting the cool back into Mankh Cool! Loved this place, a cozy club serving Pan Asian dishes with a very good band. I recommend the Asian fish and chips where the batter is made with kaffir lime leaf and Asahi beer! The Singapore salad was also good. Do try singing for your supper in between courses in the cute Karaoke room! Wish I lived nearer, would visit more often!

Gunaydin DoinDubai Adana Kebab

GUNAYDIN OR GOOD MORNING IN TURKISH

Meet the Master of Meat at Gunaydin in Souk al Bahar! Cuneyt is 60 but looks about 50 and isn't afraid to tell you so! Smart, sauve and very skilled at deboning meat! If you have to have a bit of meat, then make sure it's here! I LOVED my Adana kebab AED 110, on par at least with Ruya Dubai. Aggressive expansion plans for the smart carnivorous chain too, 3 more branches planned in Dubai, the next one opening at the Mall of the Emirates. Packed on a Friday lunchtime, who say's the world's turned veggie? Serving lunch and dinner, but not breakfast, which is ironic when it's called Good Morning! And if this has inspired you to take a trip to Turkey then check out our 12 day itinerary for a luxury Turkish break.

BEACH, BRUNCH AND BAND AT OLEA

I haven't been to a Friday brunch for ages, but I felt I got great value for money for AED 300 at Olea at the St Regis in Abu Dhabi. NEW features of the Olea brunch at the St Regis at Saadiyat Island include a very comprehensive cheese selection in it's own room (over 40 different kinds)  and the Willie Wonka dessert buffet! AED 300 without alchohol. I tend to pick and choose quite carefully at buffets so it goes something like oysters (from Begium, France and Ireland) Singapore Laksa, but vegetarian, very clean tasting, made to order by a Malaysian chef and some cheese. The band was playing in the garden right in front of a broad, sandy, beach. First tried Olea back in 2012, glad to see it's stood the test of time and is a real favourite with Abu Dhabi brunchers.

Nb I think the food vouchers are for use from the pool side menu or from Turquoiz beach front restaurant.

seven elephants food news and reviews 103.8

A QUICK BITE

  • DIFC has a new bar called The Seven Elephants, very Balinese style decor and an extremely long bar -  where do you think it's located?  Not Gate Village. And is it called 7 elephants as there may be 7 investors or is it to do with our 7 emirates or 7 something else? They currently have a business lunch deal on for only AED 65 so go along and see what you think.

DELIGHTFUL DECOR AT DESMOISELLE

Do you know what Demoiselle means? We found out at lunch there yesterday, one of 2 restaurants from the Galvin Brothers in London, this bistro/cafe is based in City Walk and will have you falling off your gluten free bandwagon as the bread is SO good! We loved all the baked goods here and I'd go back for a breakfast or a quick coffee and croissant at the bar counter. They take their coffee seriously too, try a pour over V60 brew coffee or a Cloth filter brew, both at AED 30 each but you'd easily get 2 cups each out of those. A regular cappucino is AED 22. A good way of trying the restaurant would be to sample their afternoon teas. So expect tea, finger sandwiches, scones and a selection of pastries and cakes. Very affordable at AED 98 and then just order an extra tea and share between 2. We all loved the decor and display of the silver teaspoons (a whole wall of them!) and antique silver and brass teapots.

We were really busy this week at the Arabian Travel Market, so we'll talk about Demoiselle on our next show - Tuesday 9th May.
