A new section of Citywalk Dubai has just opened up (17th Feb 2016)
A whole new world perhaps or more of the same with an outside section, what do you think?
We were the first group of media to be shown around this new bit of Citywalk Dubai this morning. A proper guided walking tour preceded by a quick breakfast at the new Brass Cafe. Lovely, big mug of decaff coffee but no sign of anything gluten free.
Where is this new bit of Citywalk Dubai
It follows on from the end of the existing Citywalk so that’s from roughly the Sephora shop onwards. Keep going and there is a new covered mall with enormously high ceilings and an outside bit that you can access from the back. The roof of the new bit from the main road is unmissable and very iconic.
A bit of old Dubai and new Dubai all at the same intersect.
What can you expect to find at Citywalk Dubai
The 60 new outlets include well known established fashion brands like Diane Von Furstenberg and Tommy Hilfiger as well as the newer brands like the Italian Flavio Castellani (women’s clothes not a cafe!) and new food outlets.
The new food outlets range from Middle Eastern cafes to the luxury end of the market Galvin restaurants from London (Love Windows on the Sky Lounge Galvin City in Park Lane) One of these is licensed, I think the Demoiselle restaurant, again under the Galvin brothers umbrella.
There is also a cinema, didn’t spot any fountains but there was a real tree growing in the middle of the mall!
There was no evidence of any independent fashion outlets, at least not as yet. I liked the sound of the Bubo cafe place from Barcelona, don’t think that’s licensed, yet.
What’s open at the new Citywalk Dubai
Many of the boutiques are open and I recommend you go and check out the new Tory Burch store as it’s the flagship store for the whole of the GCC!
Loved the classic gold bangle for AED 600.
Brass Cafe is also open but there wasn’t much evidence of any other eating places being properly open for business as we were walking round. I think places are opening as we speak. All in all about 30 places out of the 60 are supposed to be open.
There is also a plan to open an ultra high end “clinic” , that focuses on wellness. Perhaps eventually there will be a good doctor’s surgery to service residents of the new flats and residential places as well as a couple of different health clubs as opposed to just one big, high end clinic.
Is it worth going to the new Citywalk Dubai
Yes, go for a visit, the back, outdoor bit of the mall is quite different and the flags strung across the “street” with the Burj Khalifa in the back ground make this bit quite special.
I think this bit is supposed to be called The Boulevard street, but that’s not confirmed as yet. I wanted to see a show flat in one of the new low rise apartment buildings but these were not ready yet. I am pretty confident with Meraas as the developer they’ll be stunning.
