FLOWERS IN DUBAI

Buying flowers in Dubai

Finding and buying fresh flowers in Dubai is always a bit of a challenge, we see gorgeous arrangements in hotels and offices but when we go to buy we’re presented with very little choice and sky high prices.

I had to organize an impressive display at reasonable cost recently and was lucky enough to find Black Tulip Flowers. Based on the border of Dubai and Sharjah  this well established flower importer, wholesaler and retailer has the most impressive range of exotic flowers I have seen in Dubai and is well worth a visit just to take in the vast variety of flowers to look at. A treat for your senses.

Flowers in Dubai

My favourite flowers in Dubai

I finally settled on my favourite – Gingers, extra large double shaded pink roses for a birthday cake and four lots of elegant double headed Taiwanese white orchids in glass pots (pots also available from Black Tulip)

Flowers in Dubai

If money was no object though, I would have picked up armloads of violet and soft mauve hydrangeas, perfect peonies and stacks of pussy willow and exotic greens to accompany these flowers. It was March and Black Tulip lived up to it’s name by also having tight bunches of yellow and white tulips. Black Tulip imports on a regular basis from Kenya (where they have a farm) Thailand, Malaysia,  Taiwan and Holland.

It seems like Dubai’s market for flowers is growing ! Black Tulip aren’t a bargain hunters paradise at all, but I certainly felt I got value for money. I was assured my orchids would last at least 2 months and the gingers are still looking very fresh.  Like the sound of hanging out in a flower market, check out COLUMBIA ROAD FLOWER MARKET in London.

Black Tulip Flowers is primarily a wholesaler but does welcome retail trade. The set up is in one a large warehouse type of building, there is a separate section for plants and cut flowers. The plant section is closed on Fridays.

Location of Black Tulip Flowers

Black Tulip is located on the border of Sharjah and Duabi, landmarks we were given that were easy to follow were the Al Mullah plaza, go straight on from here till you see Ansar Mall, keep going straight, then you see Al Mukhtar Bakery, take a right here, just before Safeer Mall. You go over a small bridge, do a u turn and you’ll see the large wholesale Black Tulip company on your right.

Do call them before hand to check opening times and directions from the bakery/Safeer Mall. On a Friday it took us around 20 -25 minutes from the Arabian Ranches.

Do tell them you came on a recommendation from DoinDubai and Monica. You may get a free rose !

I dealt with Mr Diwakar who was most helpful and spoke good English.

And if you’re stuck for inspiration on how to arrange your flowers and want something on your coffee table that will last a little longer, then I recommend this book.

Good Homes 101 Ways With Flowers

Very practical and good if you want to make an arrangement without too many flowers..

THANKS, Monica.

I wish I was in the flower business so we could work together, but I’m in the blogging business at the moment! I will definitely get in touch if things change or we do something with all the flower businesses here who have left similar comments to yours,

    warmest regards,

    Monica

Wow, good to know Geoffrey, would be really interesting to find out some more about costs and types of flowers, I’m not in the flower business myself but am keen on exploring your prices a bit more, who knows we could organise regular deliveries for a group of people locally if the economics and logistics worked out and not have high costs of retail outlets. Thanks again for the comment, where are you based in Nairobi? Will be there at Christmas time I think,

    Kindest regards,

    Monica. Flower Girl!
