This week (17th March) we’re eating Indian vegetarian food near Mall of the Emirates, going to an outdoor yoga fest and checking out some wetlands wildlife in the city.

Eating Out
We loved our authentic Indian thali at Vasanta Bhavan, a few minutes from Mall of Emirates. A nice place to sit with a good range of both North and South Indian dishes, very reasonably priced too.
Try their mini South Indian meal shown in the picture, if you like different types of rice! Dosas only served up to 11.30am. Different set dishes for different days too so Friday you’d get Mysore Masala dosa or you could have a mushroom dosa. But if you went on a Sunday try the thalis we spoke about or the special ragi dosa made from a very healthy of flour made from finger millet high in protein and minerals, naturally vegan, cheap as chips but better for you!
Happy Holi to all who are celebrating this weekend, Indian festival of colors.

Outing
Have you been to the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary? Home to more than distinctive flamingos! There are Kingfishers, Teals, Herons even Ospreys at the wildlife sanctuary. There are also some reptiles, lot’s of different types of plants and flowers too and of course different types of fish. The sanctuary is actually 10.3 square km and is home to 472 species of animals and 47 species of plants!
It’s won awards for it’s environmental protection and contribution to sustaining biodiversity too. Guided tours are available from Sunday to Thursday from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm. To book a guided tour for a group or to find out any more details please write an email to rasalkhorwildlife@dm.gov.ae. Do take some binoculars, a hat and comfortable shoes. Learn about the wildlife on the wetlands at one of the 3 bird hides at strategic locations. While there are 3 hides on the sanctuary, only ONE of the hides is currently accessible to the public that’s the Flamingo Hide. Do go early and visit before it gets too hot!
