This week 26th March we’re eating authentic Nyonya food in JLT, stocking up on some foodie gifts for Ramadan at Global Village and going to a music concert there too. Welcome to Monica’s Weekend 26th 27th March.
Monica Kapila and Mark Lloyd broadcast every FRIDAY on DUBAI EYE 103.8 at 1.45pm repeated on the Sunday Brunch at 1.15pm
Eating Out
We’re eating South East Asian this time in JLT on the 55th floor of the TAJ JLT at a new restaurant called Nonya. Sit on the terrace for a really good view of the Emirates Golf Club below. Nonya is short for Nyonya from the Singapore/Malaysia style of cooking South East Asian food. Broadly it’s Chinese but with a mix of Malay/Singaporean ingredients. Ladies Night is on Thursday evenings.

Outing
Take a trip to Global Village before it closes although that’s not till 7th May this year more importantly go while it’s beautiful to walk about in the evenings now! On from 4pm till late, entry is only AED 15. There is a special Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr gifts focus so think along the lines of robes, prayer shawls and beads but don’t forget fabulous foodie gifts like honey, honey cake, spices, herbs and nuts from KSA, Morocco, Iran and Yemen. Beautiful, practical crockery from Turkey too. Special Ladies and families evening on Tuesdays. See our earlier post to get a flavor of Global Village in Dubai.

Events
There is a huge pop star playing this SUNDAY 27TH at Global Village at 9pm we think that concert is included in your AED 15 entry fee! Wow! Only in Dubai. Do you know who Anne Marie is? She sang the popular song Rockabye!
