NORTH BEACH IN JBR UPDATE

Much cooler temperatures may tempt you to go to North Beach in JBR, but don’t expect the much talked about sand structures from a few months ago.

No more sand sturctures

What’s changed?

We visited during the first week of November and were surprised that the sand structures we saw in April had disappeared. There is a lot of fencing around a long stretch of the beach as well. Cranes are also in evidence, not a great view, but still plenty of people about.

New places to eat?

North Beach in JBR has plenty of places to eat BUT the Lebanese seafood restaurant Bahria we visited in April 2014 is now closed, for a brand new look. Not sure when it’s opening. We have tried the Operation Felafel, not on the seafront but one row in. It serves modern Felafel combinations and unlike many of the other places, it’s reasonably priced. There are a number of burger options as well as a Pappa Rotti and  a sushi place.

 

Anything useful?

I thought the Adventure HQ was useful for any sports or camping related kit you may need to buy. Also on sale were Colour Run Tickets, they had already sold 800 tickets for the event by Saturday 1st of November, tickets are priced Dhs 140 and include a tee shirt. The parking fee of Dhs 20 per hour can be waived if you spend at least Dhs 70 on food at any of the outlets. A useful shop in North Beach

 

Overview

I think North Beach in JBR has become a pukka touristy area now with expensive eateries by the seafront. But at the moment you need to sit on an upper floor to really enjoy any kind of view. Perhaps stick to snacks or coffee.

    You’re right, I also think it’s nicer to be outdoors than in an an air conditioned, artificially lit mall, but my update focused on managing people’s expectations if they had been before and were expecting the sand structures that became very well known.

    I think it’s perfectly nice place to spend some time rather than in a mall where we have been relegated for the whole summer. Also if you are giving a bad review of a place at least offer an alternative
