We think Sharjah is special for lot’s of reasons. An easy drive from Dubai, the serene oasis of Noor Island and the freshest seafood with ocean views. Read on to find out how to plan an easy, relaxing day out for all age groups.
First Stop in Sharjah– Al Noor Island
Al Noor Island is a green oasis of calm amidst the city’s hustle and bustle. It’s a true city island.

- Explore Outdoor Sculptures The island features gorgeous outdoor sculptures that blend art and nature seamlessly, we loved the mirrored one and dome shaped wooden, lattice over a bridge.
- Take Peaceful Walks Meander through nature paths with gorgeous plants, bushes, trees and shrubs either side. Wander with no special aim in mind other than to explore. The paths are very even and easy to walk on so they’re suitable even for those who usually find long walks a challenge.
- Visit the Butterfly House A highlight of Al Noor Island is the Butterfly House, home to hundreds of exotic butterfly species in a stunning architectural setting. It’s a mesmerizing experience for kids and adults alike and great opporunity for special photos as you can get very close to the butterflies!
Practical Tips

- Parking is easy and convenient but NOTE don’t add the first letter of your registration plate when you’re paying for parking via sms! Took a while to understand that one.
- Special discounts are available for children and those over 60, so do ask about those before paying at the kiosk. The whole trip lasts around an hour if you walk around at a leisurely pace, a little longer if you stop for a coffee at the cafe.

Contemporary Art
We made a stop at the Sharjah Art Foundation as a friend was exhibiting at the time. This is a small but perfectly formed, contemporary art hub.

- Art Installations Explore the latest exhibitions and installations from local and international artists.
- Artists in Residence Typically spread across two floors, these exhibits showcase works by artists in residence, offering a glimpse into their creative journeys.
- Workshops Keep an eye out for special workshops for adults and children, a great way to engage and learn something new.
Be sure to check their website or social media for updates on current exhibitions and events.
Third Stop in
Sharjah
A Place to Eat
We loved our late lunch at The Arabian Fish House. That’s about a 20 minute drive away from Noor Island pretty much on the border of Ajman.

- Location Nestled right by the sea, this restaurant made us feel like we were on holiday!
- What to Order Their fresh seafood dishes are gorgeous but they also have good vegetarian options too.
Last Stop in
Sharjah
Food Shopping at the Blue Souk
End your day with a visit to the iconic Blue Souk, known for its vibrant markets and traditional architecture.

- Fruit and Vegetable Market Stock up on fresh produce from the massive fruit and vegetable market. Prices are super reasonable.
- NOTE there are two blue souk markets on opposite sides of the road, one is the food market, the other is for everything else!

Thanks Emma, you can see the Sharjah post on our instagram here too at DoinDubai https://www.instagram.com/doindubai/
Yes, I’ve been to Sharjah! I visited the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, which was really fascinating, and took a stroll around Al Noor Island—such a peaceful spot. The Blue Souk was great for shopping, and the Mleiha Archaeological Centre was an amazing experience for history lovers. There’s so much culture and heritage to explore in Sharjah!
Thanks Emma, have you been to Sharjah? Where did you visit? Best regards, Monica
