Tea at the Shangri La the Shard is a very special experience
Going to tea at the Shangri La the Shard is one of those bucket list type experiences that has to done at least once! Tea at Ting is a great, late afternoon meal option in London for a special occasion.
Location of the Shangri La the Shard and how to get there
The Shangri La at the Shard is 2 minutes walk from the now very modern London Bridge Station. It’s a very safe area indeed. Parking would be quite difficult round that area. You could also take an Uber, we used them extensively around London but definitely took the underground to get here, as the traffic can be busy at certain times of the day.
But that doesn’t everyone from taking their cars!
What to expect to drink
Well you must have tea, but there are so many different kinds. But there is some tea drama before you even start!
There are over 30 different teas at Ting at the Shangri La at the Shard
You’ll find your tea sommeliers very knowledgable and helpful. They guided me very well with my choice of teas. Choose from black, green, oolong, white or Signature Shangri La teas. There is also a selection of infusion and fruit teas.
I thought the Pu’erh tea that had been double fermented with a strong, spicy, earthy taste really complemented my Asian savouries very well. Upgrade your tea for UK 13 that’s AED 60 for a glass of exquisite David Leroy, Fleur de Champagne, Premier Cru, Brut.
What to expect to eat
Tea at the Shangri La has an Asian themed and a Western themed afternoon tea. We liked bits from both! Overall it seemed our party loved the savouries from the South East Asian selection but then wanted classic sweet things from the Western Summer Berry tea. So you have to at least order one of each type of each set tea!
Banh Mi is all the rage in London right now, so try the chicken Banh Mi Asian sandwiches to begin with. We also recommend and in fact re ordered our Japanese Spiced tuna Gunkan. Expect classics liked steamed prawn dim sums and Peking Duck rolls too!
Everything is very usefully labelled to guide you nutritionally. That’s very helpful if you’re allergic to anything or don’t eat certain foods.
Classic Western savouries included Dorset Crab, smoked coronation chicken and cucumber sandwiches, very apt to eat while looking over London Bridge! We all loved the fresh warm scones served with strawberry jam and clotted cream, but be adventurous and try the orange and yuzu marmalade instead!
We’re going to let the pictures of the desserts speak for themselves here! But we LOVED our summer berry shots and purple macarrons! Overall there is a choice of five sweets that’s not including the scones, in each set tea, so there is plenty to eat! The problem you will have is how to try everything!
Added bonus of incredible London views
Ting is on the 35th floor of the Shangri La at the Shard and you have almost 360 degree views of London on a clear day. So this set tea is priced at UK pounds 54, about AED 250, you also get the added bonus of spectacular views of London!
You would have to pay an extra UK pounds 30 or so if you decided to visit the Shard! Compare this price to tea at the Burj Al Arab in Dubai : UK pounds 100 or AED 500 with non alcoholic drinks! We LOVED our experience of tea at Ting at the Shangri La. Perhaps the only time it’s been even more special was when we visited at Christmas for lunch!
