The Charleston is a beautiful boutique hotel in Galle. If contemporary interiors, a cool vibe and perfect location is what you need then check in to The Charleston.
Location of The Charleston hotel Galle
The Charleston hotel is located in the heritage Fort town of Galle on the southern Sri Lankan coast.
It takes about two and a half hours to reach Galle by road via a fast highway from Colombo Airport. The hotel can arrange to have you picked up and I recommend that.
Rooms at The Charleston hotel Galle
The Charleston Hotel is a boutique hotel with 1920s-style décor. It has nine rooms, two of which are on the ground floor facing the front of the hotel.
There are rooms both on the ground floor and the first floor, but please note the restaurant is also on the first floor and can only be reached via some stairs.
We think the nicest room to stay in is actually Room 1, which is quite near the reception and faces the front of the hotel. It also has its own balcony with some beautiful foliage on it as well.
Food at The Charleston hotel Galle
Do try the Sri Lankan breakfast as well as the more contemporary European/Western-style breakfasts while you’re there.
There’s definitely some sort of Italian influence happening here, because the coffee was very authentic and reminded us of our coffees that we’d had in Milan earlier in the year.
And some of the art reminded us of another Milan hotel we stayed at.
Charlies Bar
One of the best spots to hang out at is Charlie’s Bar. It’s on the first floor in the open-air part of the restaurant, adjacent to the outdoor pool.
It has a beautiful view of the coast of Galle and some of the Galle Fort walls. The place really comes alive early evening and it’s a great spot for both guests and visitors to sit and enjoy drinks with good cocktails.
Try the pomegranate sour cocktail! Loved it.
I sometimes had a coffee in the morning here before a walk or swim then had a later breakfast.
Exploring Galle
The Charleston Hotel is ideally located for exploring Galle and the surrounding areas. Although it’s in the vibrant city of Galle, it’s on a gorgeous, quiet, almost residential street, just steps away from lovely art deco galleries, shops, bars, and restaurants.
You can easily wander around the streets and stop wherever you feel like.
Day trips from Galle using The Charleston as your base
Galle is the perfect place to do some travel trips from either for half or a full day. We loved our Tea and Cinnamon experience organised by The Charleston hotel.
We also went for a special lunch to a beautiful property called Malabar Hill.
