We had dinner at Hix Mayfair and it was like digesting a piece of historic London! Put it on your list for Stylish Time in London when you’re next there. Here’s why we think you’ll love Hix Mayfair.
Hix Mayfair at Brown’s hotel is a special place
The name Hix comes from Mark Hix, the British creator of the restaurant. He’s a well known chef and restauranteur and Hix is one of 9 eateries that bears his name. He has plans to open in Jeddah and Shanghai, but I don’t see any Dubai branches yet. But famous chefs are just the tip of the iceberg as far as celebrity connections are concerned!
Browns’s hotel itself (where Hix Mayfair is located) has hosted American presidents, inventors, crime writers and European nobility! It’s steeped in history since it’s inception back in 1837, making it, along with Dukes, one of the oldest hotels in London. The luxury, boutique hotel has retained it’s British glamour and feel with it’s wood panelling, artsy tiled floors and choice of stylish, but classic floral arrangements. You feel very special hanging out in this hotel.
What to expect to eat at Hix Mayfair
Mark Hix focuses on British food, locally sourced and produced where possible, with an emphasis on lighter seafood dishes. British classics like fish and chips are also on the menu and make a good choice. We started our meal with some Dungarvan oysters that were really fresh.
I had a lobster salad as my main dish, a seafood classic prepared in a lighter fashion. The prawn cocktail was also tasty and stylishly presented.
Do save room for dessert, I recommend the chocolate tart for a classy and satisfying pudding. We liked being able to add our choice of fresh fruit from the dessert trolley as well.
We were impressed with the sommelier’s choice of wine and the welcome champagne we had to start our meal.
What to drink at Hix
You must have a drink before dinner at the very hip Donovan’s bar and drink in the atmosphere here. It’s based on the ground floor of the hotel just opposite Hix Mayfair. They have an impressive list of cocktails to choose from here! It’s got quite a modern feel and is spacious despite Brown’s being a boutique hotel.
Location of Hix Mayfair
Hix Mayfair is located on the ground floor of the iconic Brown’s hotel on Albemarle Street in London’s Mayfair. We took an Uber from the Marylebone High Street area to get there. The nearest station would probably be Green Park. It’s a very safe area of London. It’s also very near well established shopping areas of Bond Street, Regent Street and Jermyn Street.
