The Gold and Diamond Park in Dubai is not a park in the obvious sense of the word. It’s a cluster of low-rise, fully air conditioned buildings, most of which are an array of different jewellery shops.
JUST GOLD AND DIAMONDS
OR OTHER JEWELLERY
The shops sell everything from real to artificial jewellery, but mainly real and semi-precious jewellery incorporating gold, diamonds & gem stones.
There are shops that use and sell both real and lab-grown diamonds so do make a point of asking. That’s if you have a preference.
Lab grown diamonds are cheaper but apparently there isn’t too much difference in price if you’re only using very small diamonds.
WHAT CAN I DO AT THE GOLD DIAMOND PARK
OTHER THAN BUY JEWELLERY
You can have your real jewellery cleaned and shined up while you wait. If you have a good connection or are a loyal customer, this is usually a complimentary service.
You can also have existing jewellery redesigned or remodeled. It’s better to go with a design in mind though then discuss the viability of it with your chosen shop.
I was inspired by how jewellery designer Polly Wales uses tiny coloured stones in clusters to make more of an impact.
So I took a few small pieces that had tiny stones in them and turned them into something like this.
A good jeweller will always keep you in the loop and show you stages of the finished product, so quite often you get a wax model before the finished product. No surprises that way!

You can also go with your own gemstones and have them set however you like, again it’s better to go with a picture of your design in mind before hand.
MY EXPERIENCE AND WHAT HAVE I DONE AT THE GOLD AND DIAMOND PARK
I LOVE the Gold and Diamond park, you can give your creativity free reign here for a fraction of what it would cost in a European city!

Of course silver is way cheaper to work with than gold, especially now!
I have had my engagement ring remodeled twice and I love the current result.

I converted a lapis lazuli and diamond cufflink into a beautiful pendant (as the other cufflink got lost – see above) and I am currently having an aqua marine gem stone I bought from Sri Lanka set into a cocktail ring.

WHERE TO EAT AND SHOP AT THE GOLD AND DIAMOND PARK
There are some brands that have multiple of shops under their name at the Gold and Diamond Park. Some have as many as 14 different shops under the same brand!
I think go to a few places, have a chat about what you’re looking for and select the shop you are most comfortable with and stick with the sales people you can relate to. Or select a place you have been recommended by someone you trust not the one with the most people in the shop.
There are a limited number of places to eat in the area, more cafes vs restaurants. We like Alma’s Portuguese cafe

WHAT’S BEST WAY TO TRAVEL
THE GOLD AND DIAMOND PARK
There is paid parking but the metro is way easier and just a 1 minute walk away.
It may be easier to park on the side of the road OPPOSITE Mall of Emirates and then walk across the bridge at Equity station.

MONICA’S TOP TIPS FOR VISITING THE GOLD AND DIAMOND PARK
Avoid going around October/November during Diwali or late November and December during the pre Christmas rush. You won’t get served easily and it’s just too busy.
Have a clear budget in mind that you don’t want to go over. Be prepared to go more than once before you make your final purchases or remodeling decisions.
Have some pictures of designs with you that you like especially for anything you want to have remodeled.
Go to a few shops and work with the people you feel the most comfortable with, don’t follow the herd!
If you prefer to visit an established boutique with a wide range of certified pieces try Kanz Jewels who have a good selection of both gold and diamond collections. They also have multiple branches too.
Try and stay focused on what you want to get done, if you start browsing the windows, it’s like browsing social media, you may be there a long time and have got distracted for nothing!
For anyone with you who’s not interested in jewelllery, send them for a book browse to the fabulous Old Library just 2 minutes walk away and ask them to wait for you at Alma’s cafe for a coffee and snack.
