New Mexican at the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights
A authentic, new Mexican restaurant has opened on the ground floor of the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights hotel, do you know where that hotel is? New restaurant openings, new deals, new menus and a Masters of China Chefs showcase from Paris all on this week’s Food News with me and the team from The Ticket, Mark Lloyd, Stef Burgon and Zahra Soar.

Starting with the Chinese Chefs showcase from Paris
Michelin star chef Samuel Lee Sum is the Executive Chef de Cuisine at the Shangri La in Paris and he’s the first in a line up of chefs who’s appearing in the Masters of China Chef’s Showcase. A Master Chinese chef from a Shangri La elsewhere in the world visits for a week and introduces Dubai to their particular style of Chinese cuisine, a great way to experience some world class Chinese food without leaving Dubai. And we’ll be better off for it! So go along to the Shang Palace from the 23rd to 29th of February. Expect to sample dishes like fried eggplant with sesame and ginger, prawns with asparagus and black truffle and crispy lobster! I can’t wait to try the media tasting next week. I’ll add the pics to this post!
New Mexican at the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights La Tablita
La Tablita is a brand new (January 2016) restaurant on the ground floor of the Hyatt Regency Creek Heights hotel and it seems like all the staff are Spanish speakers or Mexican themselves! That’s refreshing for Dubai, I wonder how long they’ll stay? Gorgeous, warm orange, ochre and sunny yellows make up the decor here, a good sized space that has a separate bar area with high stools at tables and a more traditional dining area. There is no terrace though.
I LOVED the classic guacamole, not overpureed like some guacamole and sensibly priced at AED 55. The portion is generous and would be fine to feed 2 or even 3 with other items on the menu. Great to have with some drinks. Similarly the dips with the tortilla chips you get for free when you sit down are really good and watch out for one of the dips, it’s really spicy! But these are just what you need when you’re starving and waiting for your food to arrive!

Eat these while you decide on your tacos, we had crispy fish tacos, but the taco is what’s crispy not the fish!

I would never have ordered the tres leches pudding but we sampled on insistence of our very enthusiastic and helpful waiter! It tasted very much like an Indian ras malai, in fact let’s call it a Mexican Ras Malai and frankly we couldn’t stop eating it, a light creamy, milky, light sponge with nuts and a bit of meringue!

I tried the non alcoholic tamarind Margherita, which is like a frozen, tamarind smoothie with an interesting salt on the rim, I think it’s called tajin pronounced Tahine! It’s a classic Mexican seasoning added to the rim of the glass and is made of dried chilli, salt and lime, a bit like Indian chaat masala or kala namak but not quite.
La Tablita at the Hyatt Regency is open
La Tablita is open for both lunch from 12pm to 3pm then again for dinner from 6pm to midnight, I think the atmosphere would be more lively at night! Not wildly easy to find though, but just head to health care city and look for the 2 tallest towers off Oud Mehta road.
But Wait La Tablita has offered us 2 dinner vouchers for AED 300 each to spend at the restaurant
New competition post will be out soon, in fact it’s out now. FREE FOOD AT LA TABLITA Stay subscribed, and you can enter now to try and win a Beetnik pizza from Freedom Pizza and a meal at NOLA Dubai also on offer! So who says there’s no such thing as a FREE LUNCH!
A brand new menu at BOCA
Boca, a now established restaurant has a brand new menu, out a couple of weeks ago has a whole new RAW section so you can try oysters, scallops and tuna tartare and a GRANDE section with huge dishes that I didn’t try but can feed up to 2 to 3 hungry people. I liked the sound of their seafood paella at AED 195, which they can also do for vegetarians if you request it at the time for around AED 110. I love the fact that they cook what’s fresh from the market in terms of meat, fish and fruit and vegetables. I had the tastiest thing dish I have eaten all week was the blackened pomfret fish fillet sitting on a bed of parsley root with a variety of mushrooms.

At only AED 85 with a side of their Boca fries at AED 35, this was a very high class meal in a premium, upmarket setting. I’m on a terrace in DIFC at BOCA eating something extremely tasty, very fresh from a home grown concept for AED 120, with filtered water on Valentine’s Day!
They also have a deal where you can try 5 pinctxos, little dishes and a glass of an alcoholic beverage for AED 75 from 6pm till 8pm every day!
A cheesy new deal at Agency at the Madinat Jumeirah the new Post Brunch deal. Here’s what you get.
Agency is offering as much cheese as you can eat. On offer is a really good variety of quality cheese, with a splash of honey and some fig chutney on the side, together with lot’s of nice bread and artisan crackers.

So here’s the deal, as well as the cheese platter you also get a bottle of red or white beverage from either South Africa or France and you AED 195! There isn’t a choice of beverage within the broad category of red or white but our red wine from South Africa was very good and easy to drink. The cheeses were well thought out and complemented each other. You can re order any of the cheeses if you’d like more, but portions are generous.

When is this deal at The Agency on
The cheese and wine deal starts at 4pm and finishes at 8pm and it’s only on every Friday at the moment.
I suggest you eat on a high table on the terrace outside. Go towards the right side of the terrace and you’ll get gorgeous views of the Burj Al Arab and a peaceful bit of the Mina A Salam Madinat waterways with abras floating up and down. As well as the odd bird or too! A very relaxing way of eating on a Friday afternoon if you don’t want a big brunch or if you want to continue from where you left off! It’s also a real contrast to the mainly touristy sections of the Madinat Jumeirah.

We’ll add the PODCAST for this post when they’re published by Dubai Eye so you can Listen again!
