This week (25th February) we’re eating Palestinian food al fresco, bargain hunting at the Saffron Souk in Jumeirah and promenading in Port Mina towards the QE2.

Eating
We’re eating at MAMMA ‘ESH. Perfectly priced and perfectly spiced Palestinian food served in a villa cafe on the corner of Al Thanya and Al Wasl. It’s got a very spacious pretty terrace along the side and it’s a real neighborhood favorite.
I recommend the generous Palestinian Hummus which is not over blended humus so we’re talking more rustic with a spicy green chili pesto sauce? You must try some of their fattayers, I’ll have spicy muhammara and akawi cheese. Don’t leave without some Um Ali, better here than any high end fine dining in Dubai! Also in my list of casual eateries not far from the the sea!
Outing
We’re talking a walk along the sea in the Port Rashid or Mina Rashid side of town. A well established maritime destination now made very contemporary with the addition of the Marina Cubes. Have a coffee at the Coffee Lab and stroll over to the QE 2 to see the free museum at the entrance.
Event
The Saffron Souk brings together a whole load of small sellers of artisanal produce that normally sell on line for a special in the flesh pop up. Check out these unusual gifts at this semi covered event at the Majlis area courtyard of the Jumeirah 1 Mosque. Do go and pop in and look at the Mosque gallery while you’re there. It’s one of the stops on the very good Heritage Express tour of old Dubai. Well worth doing for visitors and residents.
